About Gear Wind Up

Gear Wind Up began as a notebook - a place to write down what a movement was doing before it stopped doing it. Years of buying, servicing and selling vintage automatics turned that notebook into a small shop and, eventually, this journal.

We keep no house style of watch. What we look for is honesty: original dials, correct parts, movements that have been properly cared for rather than merely made to run. Every piece that reaches the counter has been opened, timed and understood first.

The writing here follows the same principle - plain notes on watches worth knowing, without the noise.
